The Emerald Cut shape draws its name from the stone rectangular cut. The Emerald Cut shape was used to enhance the richness of colored gemstones. A large table and a deep pavilion in the gemstone enhance the light in the center of the stone, deepen and intensify its vivid color.
A ruby is a pink to blood-red colored gemstone, a variety of the mineral corundum. Other varieties of gem-quality corundum are called sapphires.
Ruby is one of the traditional cardinal gems, together with sapphire, emerald, and diamond.
The word ruby comes from ruber, Latin for red. A deep, pure vivid red is the most prized color.
